How Qualification Works
Four steps from registration to the World Final
Register Through Your School
Have your school appoint a school adviser and complete the school registration, or use your school's exclusive registration link if it has already registered. Students who are not yet linked to a school may pre-register individually, but must still be endorsed by a school adviser before competing.
Complete the WEC Study Bundle
Purchase and complete the official WEC Study Bundle on the LearningFirst platform. The bundle contains six collections covering the core economics content of the competition — each collection combines learning materials with an assessment.
Scoring is cumulative: each collection is worth up to 130 points (780 in total). Points are earned through genuine learning and assessment within each collection.
Reach 470 Points
Reach a cumulative total of 470 points or more to become qualified. There is no ranking or quota competition at this stage — every student who reaches the standard qualifies.

Join a Team of Six
Your school adviser forms teams from the school's qualified students in the EAE system. Each school may enter up to 3 teams of 6 students, and every team must be made up entirely of qualified students.
Teams are formed manually by the adviser, must contain exactly 6 members to be saved, and must be completed by June 30, 2027.

Content Coverage
The six collections cover the economics foundations assessed in the competition — from core principles and classical theories (typically IB / AP / entry-level university economics) to citizen-level economics: everyday economic phenomena, public policy choices, and financial common sense.
How Scoring Works
Each collection is worth up to 130 points, earned through the learning and assessment activities inside that collection. Your score accumulates across the six collections toward the 780-point total.
Qualification scoring is designed to reflect genuine mastery — points cannot be farmed by repeating assessments.
Cost
There is no registration fee to enter the WEC competition. The WEC Study Bundle is purchased separately on the LearningFirst platform, and its price is set by LearningFirst. It is the only cost on the path to the World Final.
Entering the competition and taking part in the World Final are free of charge — the WEC Study Bundle is the only cost on the path to the Final.
Team Quota & Formation
Who can fill a team, and how teams are built
Uniform Team Quota
Every school may enter up to 3 teams (18 students) in the World Final. The same quota applies to all schools regardless of size.
Qualified Students Only
Team places can only be filled by students who have reached the 470-point qualification standard. Unqualified students cannot be assigned to a team.
Adviser-Managed Teaming
The school adviser manually forms teams in the EAE system from the school's qualified students. A team must contain exactly 6 members — it cannot be saved otherwise.
Example
- A school with 40 qualified students may enter its full quota of 3 teams (18 of those students).
- A school with only 8 qualified students may enter 1 team (6 of those students). The remaining 2 qualified students cannot compete unless the school reaches a full second team of 6.
- Students from different schools cannot be combined into one team.
- All teams must be completed by the school adviser by June 30, 2027.

Team Quota & Teaming Rules
Uniform team quota. Each school may enter up to three (3) teams of six (6) students — a maximum of 18 students per school. The same quota applies uniformly to all schools and institutions, regardless of enrollment size.
Qualified students only. Team places can only be filled by students who have reached the 470-point qualification standard.

- A team must contain exactly six (6) members; a team cannot be saved unless it is complete.
- All members of a team must belong to the same school. Teams cannot combine students from different schools.
- All teams must be completed by June 30, 2027.
- Students may pre-register individually, but every competitor must ultimately be endorsed by a school adviser and assigned to a complete team of the adviser's school.
A school's number of entering teams is limited by both its uniform quota (3 teams) and the number of its qualified students.
Integrity During Qualification
The qualification stage is part of the WEC competition and is subject to the WEC Integrity Policy. The following apply from the moment a student begins the WEC Study Bundle:
- Personal accounts only. Sharing accounts, having others complete learning or assessments on one's behalf, and any form of proxy completion are prohibited.
- Genuine individual work. Assessments within the bundle must be completed by the registered student personally, without unauthorized assistance.
- Misrepresentation. Misrepresenting one's qualification status, points, or identity is treated as academic dishonesty.
Violations during the qualification stage may result in score invalidation, disqualification, or — under the EAE-Wide integrity rule — cancellation of results across all EAE competitions in the same competition year.

Entering the WEC competition is free of charge. The WEC Study Bundle is purchased separately on the LearningFirst platform, and its price is set by LearningFirst. Participation in the World Final itself carries no fee.

Common questions about the new qualification pathway
Is qualification still an examination?
No. Starting in 2027, qualification is earned through the WEC Study Bundle on LearningFirst. There is no separate examination round and no fixed test date: each of the six collections combines learning materials with its own assessment, and you qualify once your points across the bundle reach 470.
Do I need to pay to qualify?
Entering the WEC competition is free of charge. Qualifying requires purchasing the WEC Study Bundle on LearningFirst — this is the only cost on the path to the World Final.
What happens if I reach 470 points but my school doesn't have a full team?
Qualification is individual, but competing in the World Final is a team event. Your school adviser builds teams of exactly 6 qualified students, up to a maximum of 3 teams per school, by the team formation deadline (June 30, 2027). If your school cannot field a full team of 6 qualified students, the qualified students without a team cannot compete.
Can I register as an individual student without a school?
You may pre-register as an individual student, but every competitor must ultimately belong to a school-registered team. If you don't have a school adviser yet, you can reach out to a former teacher or an external mentor who can verify your academic background and endorse your registration.
